Learning My ABC’s and 123’s in Learning Center-Room 16!
Help me give my students tactile letters, floor puzzles, and an alphabet rug which will create a safe and happy environment where they can learn, make friends, and love school.
My students come to the Special Education Learning Center to build their confidence, gain social skills and relieve anxieties that come with being part of a general education classroom environment. Each student spends for up to 80% of their school day in the Learning Center completing assignments and receiving modified lessons in reading, writing, math and science. Some students are on the autism spectrum, some have down syndrome and others have ADHD and other special needs. All are wonderful, sweet and kind and love to come into the Learning Center to gain exposure and build skills in what may otherwise be missed in their general education classroom.
My Project
Creating a Learning Center where every student is inspired to grow and achieve what they never thought possible is so important. The rug will provide a place where the kids can come together in the mornings to greet the day and look forward to the week ahead. After recess, having their own spot on the rug will help them to calm down and listen to the fantastic adventures of Ralph S. Mouse, Harry Potter, and Junie B. Jones. Letters, what they are, how to write them and what they sound like will be explored through the use of the tactile letter boards. The shapes and how they fit into the world will also be introduced through the use of the puzzles and pattern blocks.
Each student is so unique.
Providing a variety of learning opportunities and experiences will create a learning center for all to enjoy, feel safe, and thrive in.
