Happy New Year! As we shift gears into the 2nd half of 2nd grade, we want to work hard and finish strong. My students are eager learners and have a mix of learning styles, so I continually look for ways to vary and improve our classroom learning experiences. Some of them prefer working at their desk, but most enjoy working on the floor and around the room. 90% of my students come from low-income households, so I always aim to create a warm and welcoming space for them.
Our classroom is a place of cozy reading and hands-on learning.
Our library is filled with an abundance of literary resources, bright colored baskets, and stuffed animals to read with. We also have fuzzy rugs to sit on, but I want to offer cozier seating options. Math and science lessons are hands-on and done around the room and on the floor.
My Project
These flexible, cozy seats will add to the learning climate in our classroom. My goal is to have a warm, safe, clean environment where my students love to learn. The bright colors will go perfectly with our library baskets and rugs. Students will be able to use the seats during independent reading, math and STEM lessons. Hands-on learning allows students to learn by doing and be creative thinkers.
Cozy seating options equal more time spent reading and learning!
Not only can they be used in the library, but throughout the classroom as well. We spend more time working around the room than at our desks. Students love to grab a clipboard and choose a spot on the rug to stretch out and work. These seating options allow flexibility, choice, and movement as they read and work.
Keeping my classroom clean and germ-free is another top priority. We use Clorox wipes on our desks, tables and counters every week. These floor seats will be easy to wipe down and keep clean for the students.
