Help me give my students comfortable carpet seating so they may clearly view our resources in front of the classroom and have a place to work during independent study.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My young students arrive at 7:00 a.m. each morning ready to learn. I teach a group of diverse students with nearly half of my class of eager learners participating in the school's English Language Learners program. All of my students are members of a strong community that inspires them to be lifelong learners.
The goal of my students is to do their best.
Each student in my class has a great desire to learn, and they are all using the opportunities provided in the classroom to learn and grow each day.
Seating that is located closer to classroom resources and away from distractions help keep students remain focused and engaged. During independent work times students may choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students can choose to work at their desks or sit on the floor with a work board.
Making sure students have a comfortable place to sit while they are close enough to view the boards in front of the classroom, hear stories, and participate in daily instruction, is an essential component in motivating them.
I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are sitting closer to our classroom resources during instruction and when they are able to choose their seating during independent work times. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
The product that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating to make clearly viewing the boards in front of the classroom possible and provide areas students may use when making more effective learning choices. The carpet will allow students to move from their desks to seats directly in front of the boards that are used daily for story time, writing, and general instruction. The carpet will also be extremely beneficial for some students that require an open space to get the wiggles out while they learn and it will serve as a small group learning station.
Students need a place to sit that allows them to be closer to the teacher and the instructional tools in the classroom. I have seen how carpet seating can positively affect my students' engagement and work habits. Having this additional seating will help us learn and grow even more!
