My students need 1 Teacher's Guide, 2 Leveled Workbooks, and 30 abacus.
My classroom is as diverse as it gets and I love it! The students I serve are from so many distant places such as Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Mexico, India, Iraq, and America. I feel like this year, I have learned a lot about their cultures and their specific needs. This has allowed me to grow both professionally and as a person.
Students have also learned a lot from each other, primarily to respect and accept each other's differences.
This is something very needed in our society and of course, America.
My request consists of thirty serobans for my students. This is the Japanese name for an abacus. My students love math, but sometimes struggle with it. I begin our math lessons with a three minute multiplication practice using flashcards, and while this activity has helped them tremendously, an innovative tool like this tool will be very valuable in our classroom. It teaches mental math in an interactive, hands-on way, it is very similar to a calculator, however, it does not think for the child. Also, students are able to practice very simple math to the more complex. It will definitely be an asset to our math lessons.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
