The students I teach come to school on a daily basis excited to learn new things in a creative and comfortable environment. The students are hard working, caring, and fun to be around on a daily basis. My students live in a rural school district, 60% of which qualify for free and reduced price lunch. Because of the rural, low-income/high poverty school district, the students face many challenges daily both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges, the children always come to school knowing that they are in a safe and positive environment.
In my classroom, the students do a lot of station work. By using this type of learning environment, I expect the students to work independently quite often. If iPads were available in my classroom, I would use the apps available through our new math curriculum, and the games and lessons would be at the level of each individual student. This would help differentiate my instruction, so that it meets the needs of all of my students.
Fun and interactive lessons are waiting at the fingertips of the students.
Through this grant, the students would each have a chance to use technology daily, which will help them prepare for life in the 21st century.
