This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach the accelerated 1st grade class at Leinkauf Elementary School in Mobile, AL. The students I service are from low income families, and receive free breakfast and lunch meals each day. Although students are from low economic backgrounds, they do not let that interfere with their academic success. My students are very inquisitive and intelligent. They also love hands on learning with technology!
My students make each day that I share with them interesting and worthwhile!
I find it rewarding to continually see them evolve into hard working and dedicated individuals who strive to be academically capable, socially responsible, and technologically ready to meet global challenges.
My Project
These materials will make a difference with my students' learning in many ways. Having hands on manipulatives to use during math lessons and tasks assessments help students to learn concepts and relate their learning through real world experiences. For example, counting or adding and subtracting with gold fish would keep students interest and they would be able to physically touch each represented number. Also, with solving word problems having snacks or food that students love will have them enjoy the lesson(s) more.
Teaching and learning is memorable when students can relate to what it is they are learning!
Students enjoy working with manipulatives that they can eat! After successfully completing lessons or assignments, students will have a nice snack to partake in! How cool is that?!
