I teach in an area where almost all students come from low income-high poverty households. For most of them, school is their "safe-zone" and is the place where they will be able to learn and grow. I want to make their classroom a happy place.
Despite the hardships that these children go through on a day to day basis, they come to school each day with a passion to learn new things.
Their curiosity and interest on a day in day out basis never ceases to amaze me! I want to be able to teach them with high-quality materials with the most up to date curriculum and supplies. They deserve to be given the same opportunities as all children their age as they all have the potential to grow and flourish.
I believe that all learning, must be engaging in order to be meaningful to children but I find this to be especially true with elementary aged students. This is why I bring center work and hands on learning into the majority of my school day in first grade. I have realized I need ways to keep children organized and comfortable as they work through these different centers
Children learn best when learning is meaningful and relevant to them.
The head sets will help my children when they are at their listening to reading center. At this center, they are able to listen to books while they read along. This makes reading fun and engaging for children! The comfortable floor seats are for the children when they are reading or working in an area other than their seats. The writing folders and flip books will help to keep my students organized and engaged during writing center time. Thank you for helping me to instill a love of learning in each and every child who comes through my doors!
