Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love coming to school each day knowing that my students will run to my arms with a big smile.
My students have little hands and feet, but their hearts are as big as their smile and hugs, and their steps are even bigger where the world will see the greater changes in the future.
Over 85% of the students in my school fall below the poverty level. My students do not have access to technology that would keep them engaged and further their learning.
My Project
Our school does not have an art teacher and have been unable to experience the love of art that most students take for granted.We will use the Lakeshore nylon paintbrushes and Lakeshore no-spill pain cups to paint pictures of our favorite book characters. The Pacon Tissue paper will help my Kindergartens students with fine motor skills as well as their creativity. Art is a very important part of learning in our class. It is an activity that can help all the senses-sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste-depending on the activity. The benefits of art for my students are many and will include problem-solving abilities, creativity, literacy, fine and gross motor skills, connection, understanding and love. In our classroom, "Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves, instead of more like everyone else. -Sydney Gurewitz Clemens". For our students, at Ocean Academy Charter School, art is valuable, because it allows our students process their world, it allows them be themselves and is a source of beauty and expression. With the (Rainbow Scratch Paper) my students will be able to create their own fun portraits.
They will use the Crayola ultra-clean multicultural markers so that they can draw people who look like them.
The Lakeshore easy-clean floor mats will ensure that our room will be kept clean and no paint will get on our carpet. My students will be so excited that they are able to make art projects.
