My students are a very active group of 6-7 year olds. They are all English Language Learners. Some of my students are new immigrants that had just entered into an American school and some are learning to become proficient English speakers. They come from a similar cultural background, but they are all unique in their own way.
We are an urban public elementary school that has students from different cultural backgrounds and socioeconomic levels.
Our mission is to provide a challenging academic program that gives our students the means to meet high standards in order to excel to the best of their abilities.
My Project
Because all of my students are English language learners, I spend a great deal of my day teaching reading and writing. During reading, students engage in literacy centers that include activities that reinforce what they have learned in the classroom. I believe that when students are having fun and enjoy what they do, they are more willing to learn. I would like to have a variety of games and activities for my students ranging from sight word games to magnetic letters. These activities will help support my students and help them grow as readers and writers.
Literacy centers are an essential part of a well balanced literacy program.
During literacy centers, students are engaging in activities that help them become better readers and writers. So why not make them fun? These games and materials are a fun and educational way to teach literacy.
