Help me give my students literacy materials such as Alphamagnets Upper and Lowercase letters, magnetic easel, and sight word book sets so I can teach them how to read simple words and sentences over video chat.
My classroom has been affected terribly by the coronavirus pandemic. As a Preschool teacher, most of the learning is usually hands on, which is difficult due to distance learning. Currently, we are interacting through Zoom and I am giving the students print out worksheets, but because some families do not have access to reliable internet and printers, this makes it difficult for children to access meaningful education.
Many of the families are low income, living in studios, or shared rooms in the heart of Chinatown, making it difficult for them to have enough time and space to help their children learn.
Additionally, some of the parent or adult guardians are now jobless and are struggling to support themselves. They are worried about their jobs or having proper food to put on the table and do not have time to engage in meaningful learning with their young ones.
My Project
Since I am teaching my students through Zoom live video chat, having these magnetic letters and easel will allow me to teach letters and words more easily. It will help them visualize the letters and words, which will help them learn better than if I just recited to them. Some of my preschoolers are getting ready to go to kindergarten, so it will prepare them for more learning in the future!
Furthermore, many of the parents of my students do not speak English, so they are unable to help their children with their literacy, which is why these materials are essential to help them with learning letters and words.
Additionally, since many of my students do not have access to books and reading materials right now, with the Sight Words Book Set, I can record videos of me reading so the students can watch them and listen to them on their own time, stimulating their listening and learning skills. The tools I receive will also serve as a great learning material in the future when we are back in the classrooms, as children can manipulate the letters to create words and begin learning different sounds of each letter and word.
