My students need more games in the classroom to help them learn language through play. Having this variety of games will help my students develop important social and listening skills, vocabulary, and questioning and reasoning skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a class of hardworking, energetic, enthusiastic learners. As English language learners in a high-poverty school, we face many challenges but always do our best and don't give up! Being bilingual makes each of us unique and special. Please support making our futures bright.
One of my favorite things about my students is how supportive the kids are of each other.
We have created an amazing community in the classroom where it is okay to take risks, make mistakes, learn from them and help each other along the way. My students this year help and encourage each other without prompting from me. This behavior also carries over to their classrooms which has been amazing to see!
My Project
Research shows that play is a key component of learning for children. A study done by Harvard University's Center on the Developing Child shows that play helps to improve students' executive functioning skills. Through games, children are able to develop higher levels of sustained attention, show an increase in mental flexibility and regulate their emotions. They also learn how to effectively communicate, cooperate and collaborate with others.
Having these games in our classroom will help my students develop important life skills that will carry with them outside of the classroom and beyond.
By having access to and time to play board games, my students will build strong emotional skills, including self-regulation, interpersonal, attention and English language skills.
