Help me give my students HP ink cartridges, a Scholastic Classroom Library Must-Have set, and language books to improve their language skills through literacy.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist in an inner city district with high caseload numbers and limited access to materials. The majority of my students come from low-income households and are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. I provide speech-language services to students ranging from preschool through high school with a wide range of disabilities and disorders. I spend my mornings providing services to the community based preschools and functional education classrooms at one of the high schools. In the afternoons, I provide services to an elementary school. Within the elementary school, there are also two self-contained classrooms, home to sixteen, wonderful children with Autism.
My Project
During my speech-language sessions, I am always using literacy to support my students' language skills. Access to updated books and materials will allow me to create interactive activities that will promote and facilitate learning and acquisition of skills during individual, group, and classroom lessons. The book companions and accompanying activities, including story retell, sequencing, etc., will allow my students to improve specific target areas (e.g. expressive language, receptive language, etc.) while participating in the general education with appropriate modifications and accommodations.
The HP color ink will allow me to print the book companions in color in order to provide more engaging and motivating lessons that will spark my students' interests.
In turn, this will increase student learning, both during sessions and within the classroom, and will help them to reach their individualized goals and objectives.
