Learning Language and Math at the Grocery Store

Help me give my students learning English a fun way to learn the language and common phrases used while cashing out at the store, while also learning food vocabulary, their letters and sounds, and how to handle money.

My Project

What I love about my students is their hunger for learning! They come from all different countries of the world and speak many different languages. Education means everything to them. The best way to learn language is through real-world experiences. I want my students to have a simulated real-world experience by learning through the everyday activities of life that they participate in outside of the classroom on a daily basis. One very common experience is grocery shopping.

This activity is extremely relevant to their everyday lives and lessons using these materials will help my students better communicate in the real world, while also learning food vocabulary, letters and sounds, and math through cashing each other out, simple addition, subtraction, and handling money.

Most importantly, they will have so much fun doing it and fun lessons are the best way to make real learning occur.
