Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach students with severe and profound disabilities. This is a Kinder-5th grade class. My students are warm, loving children. My students need items that they can feel and hold to enhance their learning.
The students have multiple disabilities and do their very best to learn.
When given the tools they need, my students can learn and grow. They can become more independent. My students have multiple disabilities which prevents most of them from being in the general education setting.
My Project
Having materials that the students can learn basic alphabet and numbers with would be beneficial to my students. They cannot learn the rote way that you and I learned. Hands-on learning is the best way to teach students with multiple disabilities. Anything they can hold and touch makes it easier for them to understand the concept.
My students struggle every day with learning basic concepts such as the alphabet or numbers.
Any tool that makes it easier for them to learn is needed and appreciated. It also provides the student with some independence with their learning. Every child deserves to be taught in the way they learn the best. My students happen to learn best by visual and touching.
