Help me give my students STEM early learning kits to enable them to explore the world of STEM in fun and creative ways, leading to their belief of brighter futures.
At BCP, our STEM lab is open to all of our students, from Pre-k through first grade. While our Pre-k teachers are welcome to bring their students in to explore the various aspects of the lab, I have the privilege, along with another teacher, of helping all of our Kindergarten and first grade students explore STEM, with a 40 minute class during their Enrichment period rotations.
Our STEM Enrichment classes are “inclusive “ and it is thrilling to see the light bulbs of understanding come on and to watch ALL of the kids' eyes glitter with anticipation in using the various supplies, no matter their individual "level".
Our children all get so excited when they enter the lab and they are always vying to show off their "work".
These kids are our future and I am so honored to have a small part in showing them what they are capable achieving in life.
My Project
In our STEM Lab, students will work hands on with various materials. They will work together in groups using a variety of different items to solve a given problem. For instance, they may be asked to devise a way for a raw egg to remain protected and intact when it is dropped from a certain height. They will build structures that we will test to see how they withstands wind and/or rain. No matter their "level", all of the kids get so excited when they are allowed to show their creativity off with different supplies. For many of these kids, these materials are things they wouldn't ordinarily get to use.
