More than 500 students visit me on a weekly basis to learn library and technology skills. I hope to create in them a joy of reading and learning. They love to use any resources we have to learn more about their world and to prepare for their futures.
My students are eager learners who love to create and explore.
Many of them come from low-income families and have moved around a lot in their young lives. Giving them a safe place where they can learn and explore is the best part of my work. We have a variety of students of all ages, backgrounds, and needs - from those who are non-verbal to those who are able to take a little bit and learn on their own, those who live in poverty situations to those who have no wish unfulfilled. I do my best to make sure that all my students have the same opportunities in my classroom to reach their potential.
My Project
Students learn well when they can physically work with their lessons. These materials will allow students of all ages to move around letters and numbers to create words and learn library skills.
Manipulating numbers and letters physically will help my students begin to play with words and language.
The more they play, the more they will be comfortable with reading. My youngest students - preschool and kindergarten - can match capital and lowercase letters, practice spelling their names, and work on their sight words.
As students get older, they can work on harder skills like finding and creating library call numbers and discovering new words. These materials will be useful for all ages and help every student in my school become more comfortable with words.
