Help me give my students instant learning centers so that they can access great content while I have the opportunity to work one-on-one with small groups for better instruction.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In the heart of East Nashville, my first graders bring a sense of imagination, a willingness to learn and an overall joy to the classroom. It is my job, as their teacher, to teach them to read, write and build their social-emotional selves that in turn, build the beginning building blocks of their education. The scholars here come from various, diverse backgrounds. Their families qualify for free lunch and often have trouble providing educational tools and books at home. Often, due to backgrounds and their availability to resources, my scholars come into our classroom significantly behind their peers. It is my role, as their teacher, to provide them with a rich learning environment full of materials to help enrich their experiences on a daily basis.
My Project
During literacy and math center time, students are asked to learn independently but do not have the brain capacity to know how to independently work without the guidance of someone or something. Unfortunately, in my classroom students who are working independently do not have access to great learning materials like these exciting new power pens and instant learning games. With these games, and the added technology our classroom hopes to have, students working independently will have access to games to guide their learning as well as keep their learning momentum when not with a teacher directly. The games chosen will help ideas taught stick tighter in their brains because it will enhance whole group content taught while students are having fun while learning.
