This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Learning is one of the most beautiful processes that everyone encounters throughout their life. At such a pivotal age, Kindergarteners learn to create mental representations of concepts that are all completely new to them as well as lay the foundational work of their educational career. It is of the utmost importance to me, as their educator, to have as many tactile learning experiences available for them. The bridge between the unknown and their prior knowledge is ushered in using learning experiences and manipulatives as a catalyst.
My students have a deep yearning to become super readers and mathematicians, amongst many other aspirations.
They learn best through the combination of technology, one-on-one experiences, and working with things hands on. We don't always have the tools that they operate best with, which is why any type of contribution to this fund would be greatly appreciated by me and my students. This project would afford them opportunities that I wouldn't otherwise be able to give them through direct instruction alone.
My hopes from this project is to expand learning experiences for my students so that everyone can learn and grow with no limitations on supplies.
My Project
These manipulatives and tools were hand picked to help make learning fun for everyone. I want to foster learning experiences that allow my students room for cognitive exploration while making the most of their interests. With these items, the students will be able to independently apply their knowledge to then build upon and create new concepts and ideas. These items planned to be used as, but not limited to, independent centers. I can imagine 1-2 students using the Osmo Genius Kit in conjunction with a tablet as part of a Math exploration center. This would be used after a whole group lesson and while I would be pulling small groups to work with. I can also imagine the collection of books being used as a whole group reading or utilizing them within small groups.
