I teach fourth grade in a Title 1 elementary school in Hamden, CT. The majority of our students receive free/reduced breakfast and lunch. Many of the students come from tough circumstances, but they know if they work hard and set goals, they can achieve whatever they put their minds to. The students are a diverse group, who are eager and willing to learn and be challenged.
My students need comfortable, portable seating options to help them focus on learning.
They have lots of energy and work hard in school all day transitioning through whole group, small groups, partners, and independent work. Having a variety of comfortable seating options will help keep students focused and engaged in what matters most!
My Project
My students have always enjoyed hands on learning and being able to move about the classroom. Research shows that giving children the ability to move while learning improves concentration. With flexible seating, the students will have more options to wiggle and wobble while working and stay on task.
Students are given choices in their academic tasks, they can now be given the freedom to choose their seating too!
Giving them a choice allows them to have more input in their learning. Keeping students physically active will help them be more engaged throughout the day. In doing so, students will find more academic success in the classroom.
