My Students

A typical day in my classroom is nine classes of music students, ranging from Pre-K Autistic to Sixth Grade General Music, to ensemble chorus. I teach 200 students a day, ranging in ages from 3-12. My school also has 8 self-contained ESE classrooms of students, whose learning needs I want to meet.

My school is very well respected and expected to grow!

A majority of our students will spend K-6 at this school and move to junior high right next door. In other words, we are a very close-knit community. Parents are involved, teachers and faculty love to work here, and it's a place where it's harder to get in than it is to leave.

My Project

Teaching music can be an isolating experience. I don’t regularly have the opportunity to see other programs in action, and professional development in my field isn’t provided by my district. I am requesting registration and hotel costs to attend the Midwest conference.

The Midwest conference is a premier professional development experience, helping me learn new and effective rehearsal strategies and ways to make my music room a more inclusive setting for all students.

I look forward to learning from clinicians from around the country, observing rehearsals, and watching techniques in action that will give me strategies to work with all of my students, especially those with unique learning needs. Including them in the music program is important and very worth the investment.
