A typical day at HEMMS is full of excitement and learning. All students are encouraged to be individuals and work to their fullest potential through rigor and STEAM infused lessons.
My students make up of a very diverse population.
These typical middle school students don't see each other for skin color, ethnic background or wealth. They see each other as teammates and pieces to the puzzle we call life.
By encouraging creativity and flexibility, I teach students everyone is capable and has the potential to be successful in the math classroom.
My Project
As times are changing and kids are coming into the classroom with different needs, I have to keep my classroom up to date. Flexible seating is a new way to encourage kids to focus while in the classroom. Imagine sitting in a classroom on something other than a hard seat. I have already collected items like high top tables so my students have a variety of options when choosing where to learn.
Being able to stand at a high top table will accommodate my students who struggle to sit for 65 minutes.
The carpet will be a place where students can take their write and wipe pockets to work on math facts. Bean bags and ball chairs will be an alternative to sitting at a traditional desk.
