My students need real-world lessons and activities to help them understand scientific concepts and make connections to the world; hands-on activities and labs help make this connection possible.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach special education math, science, and reading. I have a total of 21 middle school students whose disabilities vary from mild to moderate. My students are smart, loving, and caring. Each and every one of them has to overcome academic and emotional challenges on a daily basis.
As a result of their diverse learning needs, I am constantly modifying, accommodating and searching for different ways to engage my students academically and meet their diverse learning needs.
I encourage my students to challenge themselves beyond their limitations and challenge them to overcome the stigmas that are applied to students in special education.
My Project
By studying owl pellets my students will be able to understand the food chain and the importance of achieving a sustainable environment where we can keep all populations thriving in their niche.
This owl pellet study set is the perfect kit for my students.
It contains visual supports such as posters, DVD, and a dissection map to support the diverse needs of my students. In addition to this, the LumiLoupes that I have requested will serve as a visual support tool for my students who benefit from visual accommodations in their IEPs.
Furthermore, these materials will help my students learn by allowing them to make connections to the real world by using pellets and the visual supports my students need to comprehend abstract scientific concepts. My students look forward to completing labs and participating in activities that allow them to collaborate with their peers and make connections to the world.
