Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Reading and Language Arts to 44 first grade students. All my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Since October our school started to serve dinner too. Some of them are still missing personal belongings due to Hurricane Harvey. Despite the many challenges they're facing, they are coming to school every single day. They want to be in school because they are very anxious and willing to learn all they can, so they may become successful in their lives.
My Project
Having a butterfly nursery with live caterpillars in my classroom will allow my students to observe in real life the butterfly metamorphosis. They could observe and record these changes in graphic organizers, and retell the right sequencing to a partner. The real bugs discovery kit, books, insects specimen center, and insects & spiders science viewer will allow my students to have a close look at different kind of insects, they can use their journals to illustrate and write facts and details about them.
