My Students

All 39 learners come to school eager to learn! They work hard to ask scientific questions, do research and draw their own conclusions. How amazing would it be if we could provide them the opportunity learn the same skills while getting them outside?

We live in rural Maine where access to resources outside of the school cost a great deal of money we just don't have.

Students need an opportunity to get out of the classroom and into our natural environment where they can apply their learning to real-world situations.

My Project

We live in rural Maine where over 70% of our students receive free and reduced-price meals at school. Each year, we take our 5th graders to a 3-day, 2-night learning program called Ecology From the Ground Up. Students are out in all Maine has to offer, learning about the laws of ecology and pond skimming to identify unique creatures.

This isn't "glamping." They stay in cabins which do not provide electricity and only have wood heat.

They are also lucky enough to be served family style meals full of foods provided by local sources.

Funding for this trip will take the pressure off families to pay for their child to attend this exciting immersive learning opportunity. It will also allow students to apply what they have been learning about the environment in the great outdoors!
