Help me give my students options to make it in class. I have some who need to move and I believe these will help them move while they learn. The Stand up desks are perfect! Thank you.
I have about 100 7th grade students with all ability levels from far below grade level to far above grade level. I have SPED Students, ELL students, fun, artistic, creative, loud, quiet, and all sorts. They are a great group.
We were working an a grade level project of ciphers and codes.
I read the kids a book about ciphers and secret codes. Then we decided to make a competition where each class plans a party but they had to write everything out in code. For the party they had to write out invitations, themes, games and activities, and food lists all in code. They had to build the cipher and a code book all based on mathematics. Then they needed to solve the code from each other group to make the party work. The most exciting thing about these parties they are planning is that they will be able to host the party in school at the end of the school year.
This project got every one of my students interested and participating. Unfortunately, school is on hiatus at least until April 20th.
My Project
Standing Desks as a solution: Having students stuck in regular chairs all day is very tough on them. I have students who need more motion than just sitting. I have students who stand at their desks but have to bend over their desks to write. It does not work very well for an hour at a time. I selected stand up desks to help these students have a more comfortable time while writing their notes and participating in class.
I have another solution to the constant motion some of our kids need.
I picked some swivel stools for them to sit on to get their jiggles out.
