Help me give my students access to a tablet to complete interactive mathematics activities, connect to the projector to show their show the class what they know.
My students are some of the most amazing people I know. I have a group of kind, hard-working, friendly, silly, funny, and overall wonderful students in my classroom. The feeling of family that has been created in my classes puts a smile on my face every day.
My students are 8th graders who come from a variety of backgrounds.
Fifty-seven percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I have a student living in a two bedroom apartment with his aunt, two brothers, and two cousins from another part of the family, and another student who lives in a million dollar home. Although many of my students have very different home lives, while they are at school and especially in my class, these students show kindness and respect to each other on a daily basis. We truly are a family.
My Project
I feel so fortunate on a daily basis that my school has provided my pre-algebra students with access to a computer lab every day. I am also so grateful for the generosity of donors, through Donors Choose, that have helped me begin to fill my classroom with various pieces of technology to allow diversity in my blended classroom. Although I feel deeply grateful, I am always trying to find ways to continue to expand the technology offerings I have available in my classroom.
After a lot of research, I have decided that I would like to equip my students with access to a Microsoft Surface Go.
My students have equipment available that allows them to access content online or created by me, however, I have been unable to get them access to equipment that will allow them to easily begin creating content.
When students can demonstrate and explain mathematical concepts a teacher is truly able to assess the depth of the student's knowledge on a topic.
Over the last three years, I have tried to find one piece of equipment that would no only allow my students to create content quickly and easily, but also allow my students to easily interact with the current lesson. The Surface Go is the perfect combination of power and mobility all packaged in the Windows environment. The Surface Go will be used by my student to create review activities at the beginning of the school year. In addition, during whole class lessons and activities I will be able to connect to the projector and create a "mobile Smartboard" situation. I am very excited to see how this one piece of equipment will help my kids take ownership of their learning.
