Ms. Walker from Houston TX is requesting art supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Elmer's glue sticks, Crayola Colored Pencils, Markers, and other classroom essentials that many families cannot afford to buy.

I am blessed to have the opportunity to teach in Northeast Houston. Our student demographic is mostly Hispanic and African American. Although almost all of them have economic disadvantages, they share a resilience not seen elsewhere.
After being severely affected by Hurricane Harvey, our children were eager to get back to school, their friends and teachers, and resume normal life.
Unfortunately, our school and neighborhood took on more water than most. We began school one month behind the rest of our district.
This didn't stop our kids from returning and rocking! They are warriors and show up to learn and beat every goal set for them. We just need a little help from you to get there.
As post-Hurricane Harvey repairs are still underway, I would like to give my students and their families peace of mind this year. Back to school time can be such a financial burden. Therefore, this project will give my students everything they need for this year to be successful.
At a school where the students come without backpacks or supplies, it can be very difficult to learn.
My kiddos generally report in the morning with only an open mind and heart. They are mentally ready and willing to receive the lesson, but may not have the tools to get the work done. Glue sticks, scissors, markers and colored pencils are essentials to any middle school class assignments. It is scientifically proven that color aids retention. So, I encourage my students to use color to take notes. Markers and colored pencils are perfect for this. On any given day, my 90 kiddos can finish off 10+ glue sticks adhering assignments in their notebooks. Clay is the perfect manipulative to display learning in 3-D. Construction paper is also a great way for students to show what they've learned in a colorful way. However, many times my kids have to make do with the few supplies we have on hand.
As a teacher, I do purchase the bulk of supplies for my class because our school gives very little. Typically, I receive bout 6 reams of paper which lasts about 3 weeks! Unfortunately, we do not have access to computers most days. Therefore, paper and pencils are essential. It is never enough. So, with your help, lets get these geniuses in training the necessary supplies to excel this Fall.
