Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
First graders are eager to learn and curious about the world that we live in. The first-grade year is an essential year for students to develop their literacy skills. Students need to practice these skills in many ways.
My kids are eager learners, energetic, and very caring kids.
They all have various learning levels. Exposing them to more skill practice, using technology, would help students practice what they each need at their various levels. Our school is in a suburban neighborhood with many low income families and live in homes with multiple families. Many of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch and do not have access to technology at home. The funding of this project will help ensure students are prepared to live and work in the technological age of today. Educators across the country are bringing portable technology into the classroom not only to actively engage students, but also as a new way to develop essential learning objectives.
My Project
With iPads for small group teaching, my students will be able to access information, work cooperatively and engage in an interactive environment without having to wait for time to go to the computer lab. In reading, students can use apps like Epic! and our county eBook library to further differentiate reading. In writing, students will be able to write collaboratively by sharing documents using Google Docs, and iBooks, and practice spelling with spelling city. In math, using apps like Doceri and Virtual Manipulative's!, they will use interactive manipulative's, then be able to write and record their thinking, and Splash Math to practice Math facts. In science, groups can explore apps such as Brain Pop Jr. for information to be shared with others. This is just a start to the many possibilities!
Donations to this project will help students practice using technology on a daily basis.
Students will be able to use the latest technology to to build skills and prepare themselves for the daily use of technology in the real world. The funding of this project will give students ownership and independence in their learning. My students and I appreciate any amount you are willing to give!
