My students need materials for reading class to help them organize the materials we use while learning HOW to read with better accuracy and fluency. We specifically need lots of flashcards, Ziploc baggies and pens.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are incredible. I work with students in a resource room setting that have moderate learning disabilities in groups of 10 or less. They are kind, inquisitive, eager to learn, and always looking to get their hands on an incredible book, math game, or piece of technology to enhance their learning. My students are grateful, humble and genuinely love to learn and to be engaged. They especially like discussing what we have read, reflect on skills and concepts that we learn about, and thinking about ways that they can proactively better our world. They are concerned about the future of our country and are thrilled to connect with ways that they can help. For most, they are still learning how to read and need as much support as possible with building a strong phonetic foundation.
My Project
My students love reading class. From the basics of learning phonetic principles, memorizing high frequency words, various word study activities, acquiring new vocabulary, and applying all of that to novel studies - they work hard and enjoy it!
We go through all of the materials requested in this project faster than I can keep them stocked!
I often ask families to send these materials in but most do not have the means to do so.
Having access to more flashcards, Ziploc baggies, and pens will not only keep our materials more organized but will help students acquire the skills necessary to learn how to read with more accuracy and better fluency!
