I have an amazing group of students who overall just LOVE to learn! My goal this year is to keep that passion going. I am at a Title I school that takes in students from a homeless shelter located in the downtown area of our city.
I concentrate on teaching about social justice issues and it has created a passion in my students for helping others.
I truly feel that they take the important concepts and ideas I teach them, absorb them and will become some of the leaders of our future.
My Project
This past year I have become really passionate about using technology and student voice and choice to create a personalized learning pathway for all my students. My school recently went one to one with chromebooks so I am looking for new ways I can use these pieces of technology to teach my students. I want to continue learning how to personalize and engage learning in my classroom. Texts such as Mathematical Mindsets by Jo Boaler and EDU Protocol: Field Guide, discuss many examples of how teachers can do this.
Texts such as, Ditch That Textbook/ Homework, Teach Like a Pirate and Shake Up Learning all offer ways teachers can use technology to create new lessons that teach students using 21st-century skills and engaging lessons.
These types of lessons also promote collaboration between students which help students learn positive social skills.
