Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with students who are between the ages of 18 & 22 and have a disability of some sort (mostly autism). These students have already graduated from high school and are attending out program to help gain daily living skills along with many other areas that are taught here. I have been working with special needs students for over 20 years now and I absolutely love the work that I do because seeing their smile after successfully completing a task that they once couldn't is priceless. My students come in every day ready to go out into the community to help. Our students before the pandemic used to volunteer at Kate's Kitchen, The Children's Museum, The Holyoke Public Library, and many other spots within the community that request the help from our students.
My Project
Since we were faced with shutting our program down March 13, many of my students have struggled even more than usual with handling their emotions. These journals will allow them to do that in a "fun" way.
