My students need immersive games like 1754 Conquest The French & Indian War Board Game, Town of Salem, and 1812: The Invasion of Canada to solidify and enhance their learning!
My students come to our small, rural school from all walks of life. This community is unique in that we only have one class in each grade, which creates a learning cohort that students are part of throughout middle and high school. They get to know each other and their teachers very well, which helps our little school meet our educational goals. We have some of the highest test scores in our district, physical fights are almost unheard of, and bullying is minimal and dealt with swiftly by caring teachers and staff.
My students are the future.
Every day I see in them the compassion, cooperation, empathy, intelligence, and tenacity we will need to navigate our rapidly changing world. My students teach me as much as I teach them - they are heroes, every last one.
My Project
Middle school students are asked to digest and remember a great deal of information about historical knowledge. These important events and people can seem very distant from their young lives, which makes relating to the material difficult for most. Games like 1812: The Invasion of Canada, 1775 - Rebellion, and Town of Salem can change that.
These games immerse students in historical situations in ways that textbooks never will.
They become invested in the outcomes of the conflicts that are recreated and they will remember the information they learn from playing much more efficiently than if they were to listen to a lecture and take notes.
