This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school does not offer a strings program, and my guitar club is providing the opportunity to learn this instrument, and opening doors to new forms of musical expression for students who would otherwise not have this opportunity.
Our students are hungry to learn new things, but the school lacks the sort of funding necessary for these electives.
Our district does not have a stringed instrument program, and I am giving guitar lessons for free to any student who can get their hands on a guitar. Some students that have expressed interest in these lessons lack access to a guitar, either because an instrument is not available to them or the funds are not available. We are located in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, in an impoverished area near a closed military base.
My Project
The request is one acoustic 6-strong guitar, a tuner, a digital metronome, strings, a soft case, and instructional material to be shared among a few students, and is enough to get a beginner started with learning how to play the guitar. We will be able to study chord structure, beginning music theory, scales, chords, reading tabs and music, learn how to tune our ears, keep time, and learn songs as we develop improvisational skills and enhance our vision of music. Learning music helps in almost all academic areas, such as reading, writing, and math, and gives students a productive and fun activity, both in and out of school.
Donations to this request can change the life of a student who would otherwise never have this opportunity.
Learning to play the guitar changed my life in so many positive ways...please help me change the lives of students who really need positive change in their lives.
