My classroom consists of 18 eager students who are passionate and driven to learn. I'm looking to build strong literacy skills in my scholars so they have strong foundational skills on which to build in years to come.
Hurricane Maria has greatly impacted our school community.
There are several students who are learning a new language for the first time. I need the necessary tools to help bridge those language gaps and become a more effective teacher for those students.
My school has one of the largest bilingual populations in Orange County. We have welcomed many displaced students from Puerto Rico. Many students are learning and reading in English for the first time.
My Project
The rhyming sounds, phonemic awareness kits and teaching sound tubs will be used as a tool to reinforce the learning standards, particularly in reading. Tactile reinforcement helps students to learn and retain the new found knowledge while allowing them to remain academically engaged. The bins and racks will be used to organize books and learning supplies in a way that students can more easily access them.
Although impacted by hurricane Maria, we must still ensure that all students continue to grow both socially and academically.
By providing learning that is both fun and forward moving, we ensure their continued growth in the classroom.
Many of my students are bilingual and would greatly benefit from having learning games, books and other reading supplies that encourage growth in their second language (English).
