Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students want to succeed in school and in life. I am a teacher in a high-poverty school where my students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Help me bridge the gap.
My students come from a low-income status, the inner-city, and have special needs.
I also have students that experience homelessness. I need to do all I can during school hours to help these students progress to well-developed, smart young men and women. To effectively teach students in a wide range of levels, I need many resources.
The majority of the students at the school come from low socioeconomic households. Students and parents do not have the financial means to provide essentials. Help me bring in the necessary materials to help my students succeed in school.
My Project
I teach an awesome group of middle school students. They not only have the challenge of being special needs, but are also mostly low-income students on free or reduced-price lunch.
The students that I teach are reluctant readers who are engaged by reading material that reflect issues that are current.
Help my students understand the complexities of activism and racial politics through the lens of the thought-provoking, and award-winning book “The Hate U Give”. Help my students learn about diversity and see things via a different set of eyes. It is difficult to turn on the television or read an alert on your phone that does not involve some racial or social injustice. My students are concerned and want to engage in discussions to bring awareness. Help me make this possible by funding this project.
