Learning from the Experts: Literacy and Technology PD
I need a full year subscription to the Educator Collaborative's Study Series. Through monthly webinars with literacy experts I will learn about best practices for integrating literacy and technology.
My students are eager, creative, and ready for just-right challenges. They love to listen to stories, read, and write. They have grown up using iPads and laptops and deserve a classroom where the educators who support them are able build on their technology skills to enhance learning. In the fall of 2016, our school will open its doors as a 1:1 school. My students will have daily access to Chromebooks so that they can document their learning digitally and use digital tools to create and collaborate with their peers both in the classroom and around the world.
My Project
I want to make sure that my students are not simply using technology because it is there, but because it allows them to learn in new and better ways. The study series will provide me with access to twelve webinars on literacy learning. Many of these webinars also address the the ways in which technology can be used to enhance literacy instruction. Through the webinars, I will learn about digital citizenship, using technology to help differentiate instruction to reach all learners, and technology as a way to empower student voices. Although I will be the primary subscriber to the webinar series, it comes with a group viewing license so that my PLC members can participate too, allowing this project to impact all of our second grade students!
As a teacher in a 1:1 classroom, I need professional development on how to create a classroom culture that supports innovative and joyful literacy learning with technology.
This professional development will help me use technology to provide each student with just-right texts, to use digital tools to write and talk about the books they read, and share their thinking and collaborate with authentic audiences. Being effective with my instruction will allow my students to develop as readers and writers and appreciate the power of growing their ideas with others.
