Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse group from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds as well as academic levels and come from different areas on the mountain. A few are new to the mountain.

Their determination and positive outlooks on life determine their success.

They are willing and driven to do what it takes to do their best. Where there is a will, there is a way!

Being a small community, all of our students are well connected to our school and staff as well as the community and its members.

My Project

Students learn best through observation and hands on activities. One of the advantages of our school environment is that we live in a mountain community with a variety natural habitats allowing for many opportunities to observe nature.

A calm and serene environment with bountiful animals allows students the opportunity to learn through observations of their habitat and Animal characteristics.

We had recently learned about the declining nesting options for the Western Bluebirds in our area. The books that are being requested contain information on other birds in California. My students will be able to use the binoculars and then the books as a reference when they are unsure of a birds species they are observing.

With the help of window nesting boxes, students will be able to observe and learn about the life cycle of birds by seeing it from the very beginning as an egg. In addition, the nesting boxes will allow my students to observe how they are taken care of and what the nests look like. With the window feeders, students will get to see how the birds eat the seeds and provide for additional closeup observational opportunities.

With the dry and hot summer and fall climates in our area, birds don’t always have the means for finding water and food during these months. With the help of the outdoor feeders, my students will support the existing bird population and encourage growth and new species.
