Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The Title One school that I teach at has many families that have experienced different forms of trauma. Trauma that includes death of a parent, poverty, and homelessness. My school helps students feel proud of their accomplishments and proud of who they are and where they come from by providing equitable learning for all of our students. Fees are waived for elective classes and all students get an instrument at no cost. Student are also given school supplies, backpacks, and other necessities.
I want to see my eighth graders develop confidence in their learning.
My Project
When students can share their problem solving and critical thinking for other students to see and learn from, they build confidence in their mathematical ability. Having a projector connected to my smartboard will allow students to show how they solved the problem. This allows me as their teacher to see misconceptions.
We can work through the problems together and it makes learning more meaningful for the students.
It warms my heart to see them grasp difficult concepts in math. Having confidence in mathematical reasoning opens doors for future career choices. As their teacher I want to see all of their dreams come true.
