My Students

"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow," John Dewey said. Please help our diverse population of students access technology and applications that will allow them to learn alongside their peers.

I co-teach in an inclusive classroom which consists of students with severe cognitive disabilities, Autism, and general education students.

These students are eager to be a part of whole class experiences and learning opportunities. Communication, behavior, attention, and appropriateness of curriculum play a key role in daily classroom activities.

My Project

I have requested an iPad to help my students access the general education curriculum and provide them with multiple opportunities to share in grade level experiences. The iPad comes with accessibility features - built-in modifications that make it easier for users with visual, auditory or other physical disabilities to use this tablet. The iPad has thousands of educational and social applications that gives educators, parents, and children a chance to explore and utilize a vast range of content. The iPad will be used as a communication tool for students to express their needs and wants and have age appropriate activities readily available. Students will also be able to access our classroom content with books and games.

When I decided I wanted to be a special education teacher, I knew that it would be my responsibility to stand up for student rights and be an advocate for all of my students.

I want my students to be able to have the modifications and programs they need in order to make progress academically and socially accessible in the classroom. Thank you!
