Learning Financial Literacy Through a Classroom Store
My students need various math games including PayDay, and Allowance Game to teach students the value of money. They also needs resources to stock our classroom store where they earn money to spend on various rewards!

My Students
My classroom makes up one of 42 classrooms (K-5) in a school that serves over 750 students K-5. Of our population, all the students who attend our school receive free and reduced-price lunch. We also start our days serving breakfast in the classrooms.
It is one of the largest elementary schools in our district and has a high population of students living in poverty.
We are a low-performing school that is fighting to challenge our students in any way possible. We are fighting every day to close the achievement gap, but it's hard when students don't have their most basic of needs.
Some students look forward to coming to school just to get away from their home environments and we, as teachers, try to make the most out of what materials we have. We as a school strive to meet the needs of our students as well as make a fun and engaging environment for each and every child.
My Project
Many of my students do not understand what it's like to earn money and how to save money for items they want or need. With this project students will learn to value of money through games like Pay Day, and the allowance game, as well as through financial literacy lessons. Students will then be able to apply to run our classroom store, students who run the store will change out each week in hopes that all students will be able to run the store. This will not only teach students how to manage their money but also give students understanding about how to take and give back money.
Many of my 4th graders do not receive allowance or are taught about money management at home, these things are crucial life skills that I wish to help teach my students!
I am requesting various different things from pokemon cards, chips, drinks, earphones, hand sanitizer, personal packs of Kleenex, pencils, candy, erasers, fidget spinners, stress balls and plush dolls. All of these items will be available within the classroom store where students can use their own money to purchase. Students will be able to earn money throughout the school day for grades, completion of work, doing their assigned classroom jobs, behavior, etc.
