The students at my school are a spirited group. As a school, we take pride not just in our school but also in our daily activities. We take time to discuss citizenship and how being a good citizen brings us together as a school and as a community. As a school, we take the time to ensure community involvement. We host events the community can attend such as a pancake breakfast and seasonal festivals. We encourage student involvement in the school with after school sports, clubs, and student council. We encourage parent volunteers by offering trainings so the parents will feel useful in their time spent at the school. Our school is not just a school but a caring community.
My students come from a diverse community.
Those who do not have much have the support of those who can give. Even if material items cannot be given, time is given. What makes my students special, my school special, and our community special is the care and respect we have for one another.
The age of Virtual Reality is upon us. The world is changing, and education is slow to adapt. However, there are ways teachers can speed up the process, and virtual reality is one way.
Students can now experience a lesson by immersing themselves with a visual stimuli.
They can go into the subject they are learning. If a student is learning about the animals in the ocean, what better way then to go into the ocean themselves? With virtual reality, students can dive into the ocean and actually look around. Imagine the possibilities students now have and the different places students can go without leaving the classroom. Students will have the ability to look around, explore and stay engaged. This is something a worksheet or a simple picture does not offer. However, with your help, we can offer it to these students!
I am asking for a Google Expeditions Kit. This kits comes equipped with 10 student devices and headsets, a teacher device, and a router to boost the internet. The wonderful part of Google Expeditions, you can use Google's other apps to create your own 360 pictures to have you students look at. You can have students create a whole new type of show and tell. You can have students use Google maps and drop images of places they a doing reports and presentations on into Expeditions. You can truly bring so many different aspects of the educational world to life. This kit will also give us a head start on Googles newest project, Augmented Reality (AR).
