Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of diversity! I have students from Guatemala, Cuba, Honduras, Venezuela, Indonesia, U.S. and more. Most of all my students are English Language Learners and are acquainting English as a Second Language. Our school is in the touristy city of Miami Beach. Many immigrants come to this city for a second chance in life because certain conditions in their country do not allow a happy lifestyle. Wherever we are from, we are one big diverse family in our classroom!
My Project
In my kindergarten classroom, I will have a large number of English language learners who not only need to learn the language but also need to read. For this reason, I am creating this project to help my students succeed with this goal. My students will be learning in literacy centers in the mornings and what better idea than to get different fun resources for each center! Your contribution will allow each group of students to enjoy a different literacy center to help them learn how to read. Some activities in each literacy center will be learning the ABC’s , touching the sight words with felt pads, using picture boards to help the non English speakers. Also, learn the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters with a magnet board. Students will learn how to blend sounds of a word with word cards. A teacher led center can help the students who need the most help and they will love the soft seats for that. Please help me fund my project so that I can provide my students with these different resources and achieve the goal: learn English as well as start to read!
