My Students

It has been a very interesting couple of years for my students. With the pandemic many parents opted out of preschool. Most of my students have started their kindergarten year without formal exposure to school. It’s been interesting to see the differences in the kids from the past two years. Some of the kids are lacking in social skills, and as well-meaning as the parents are, these kids are starting their first year of school with a deficit.

Although it’s “just kindergarten” the concepts and skills that these kids learn in this first year of school are foundational, if these kids start school behind that deficit follows them to each successive grade.

Every parent wants the best for their children, and although kindergarten teaches the basic skills, it’s not the easiest task to teach a five or six year old, and honestly doesn’t come naturally to most. It’s imperative that we catch these small people up and teach them what they need to know to start their school career successfully.

My Project

These learning centers will help kindergartners practice the essential skills they need to build a strong educational foundation. Most of the students did not go to preschool because of the pandemic, and it has put them behind children entering kindergarten in preceding years.

These resources will help catch these kids up to where they need to be so that their learning deficit does not follow them to subsequent grades.

Each item targets a specific learning concept or skill that is necessary to master in order to be successful in first grade.
