Can you imagine how successful a classroom would run if the teacher had the opportunity to work with a small group while the other students were independently learning? That is what these learning centers could do for my classroom.
The students that I work with are in second grade (7 and 8 years old).
They often have a difficult time staying on task while they are working independently. They have a great need for items that they can complete independently. These items will give my students something to do (besides reading a book) when they complete their other work on time.
My Project
The items that I am requesting are math and reading materials. I am requesting a set of measuring cups that students will be able to use to compare different amounts of liquid. I am also requesting two different phonics materials that will help students gain phonological awareness (beginning, middle, and end sounds). Finally, I am requesting a daily math problem that students may go to and complete when they have finished all of their work.
These items will make a huge difference in the daily functioning of my classroom.
Having a math problem for students to work on when they are done with their work will allow me time to work with other students that need my help. Having these "centers" around the room will help students to continue to learn during the whole school day.
