Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a Title I school. 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Parents live from paycheck to paycheck and can only provide the basic necessities for their kids.
Besides the daily challenges they were already facing, Hurricane Harvey also left a massive destruction in our community.
Some of my students have lost their houses due to Hurricane Harvey, some others have relatives living with them.
The reality that these students face is unfair. However, my students are hardworking and come to school every day ready to learn.
My Project
Our community experienced the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. My second-graders came during the first week of school and then had to stay at home for 2 weeks because most of our city was flooded.
The Cricut and Silhouette will allow our students to create a variety of items which might include letters and/or embellishments for class project and classroom decorations.
I am hoping to use this machine to bring out the creativity in my students by allowing them the opportunity to create different projects such as posters and signs in classroom.
The Cricut and Silhouette are devices that can enhance our classroom visuals and allow me to quickly put fun materials in the hands of the students.
Having a Cricut and Silhouette will allow me to create some great anchor charts that I use to visually appeal to my students and hang around my room. I will also get an opportunity to personalize labels on classroom items such as tools, storage, and desks using the vinyl sheets.
We are also in need of a pair of headphones for our listening center. My English Learning Students benefit from repetition and books that are being read to them and this will help enhance their learning.
