Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are resilient, eager to succeed, and full of creativity, curiosity, and dreams. They come from Richmond, CA and surrounding areas in the East Bay.
My proudest moments with my class this year have been in witnessing the kindness and compassion these kids show each other on a daily basis.
They take care of each other when they are upset, help each other with difficult work, share, offer to help around the room, and solve their problems with understanding and compassion.
We had a new student enter our classroom this year and I was worried that, as many young kids do, our class might not treat him respectfully or include him. But they surprised me! The whole class came together to make him feel welcome, part of the group, included and loved. They take pride and joy in making everyone feel at home in our little classroom.
My Project
These learning center resources will help kids stay engaged while I teach reading groups. Colorful, fun, and interesting games will help everyone stay on task and stay learning even when I am not right there to guide them.
Six and seven year-olds need a variety of ways to interact with their learning in order for it to stick.
They need games, stamps, movable pieces, and puzzles. They need meaningful ways to practice and engage with each other. These center resources will help them do just that!
Not only are the kids learning to read, understand math, and create, they are also learning how to cooperate, share, work together, and work independently. I think this will be a really enjoyable resource for our class as we delve into guided reading groups.
