Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful, expressive, creative individuals, who come from a variety of home environments. The students in my classroom are mostly second language learners, coming to school with very little exposure to the English language. Our school population are mostly Latino, ESL, low-income students, who are thrilled to have the chance to learn and participate in the classroom environment. The students are active participants in a positive school environment that encourages all students to succeed, and they are held to a high level of standards.
My Project
I am incredibly excited to provide my students with a new form of learning and play through light tables! Not only will they experience a new form of open play with a variety of materials, but their academic learning, scientific interests, and sensory integration needs will be lit up as well!
Light tables and the materials provided alongside them are amazing tools that spark learning, encourage high level thinking, hold student's attention span for long periods of time, and build imaginative play.
I am constantly looking for new ways to engage my students with their learning and light tables promise to do just that. Who can resist placing brightly lit up neon cups together to form words? To put reusable ice cubes to work as numbers- stacking them, matching them to number words or sentences? Exploring what happens when you put two colors together or what it looks like inside the human body? Studying the veins within the autumn leaves or putting shiny jewels together to make patterns?
There are so many possibilities I look forward to trying out with my students! Thank you for your time and consideration!
