My Students

I am a middle school teacher in a low-income district in northern California. My students come from diverse backgrounds and a majority speak a second language. Their families are supportive and want the best for their children but often lack the resources needed to assist them. Almost half of my students have Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Currently, I am teaching Math Intervention for students 5th - 8th grade.

After a year and a half of distance learning and limited math instruction, many students are lacking basic math skills.

My Project

Learning is much more fun when it is hands-on! My students love to build with their Magna Tiles. However, they are limited to their creativity as we only have one set. By adding additional construction pieces they will be able to engineer some really cool designs. The PicassoTiles will provide STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math opportunities, which is the key factor to success in today's ever-changing environment. Their learning will be fun, engaging and entertaining . Students will be encouraged to create individual architectural structures and designs that incorporate the laws of physics and the power of magnets. By having additional pieces, they will be able to scale and build amazing structures as they acquire a strong knowledge of geometrical shapes, including 3D forms number counts, magnetic polarities, architectural design, and structural engineering.
