Mrs. O'Block from Chicago IL is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need headphones to read on their own and focus during small group time!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My job as an educator is more than to teach students how to read, it is to help meet their basic needs and make my classroom an environment where they feel provided for, loved, and safe to put all their effort into learning. As a teacher in a low-income neighborhood on the west side of Chicago, I see my students face a plethora of challenges before they even enter the school building. As a result of their socioeconomic status, many of them come to school without proper supplies, clothes, and nutrition. My dream for my students is that they have a begin to explore beyond their neighborhood and their city to discover a bright world bursting with possibility.
By funding this project, two full sized classes of third graders will come to school already having the supplies they need for a successful year.
I am seeking to provide my students with a "Toolkit to Travel the World," that includes pencils, a journal, colored pencils, a map of the world, and a fictional book of their choosing. Providing students with these supplies will not only help them further enjoy class activities, but also allows them to independently push their learning!
Many of my students are struggling readers and desperately need to be read to. Unfortunately, there are not enough teachers or volunteers to spend ample time reading with students who need to hear it. One solution is for students to access free online programs where they can choose a book and it will be read to them. The only problem is that with so many students playing their audio books at once, our classroom becomes noisy and difficult to concentrate on your book!
With these headphones, students will be able to choose whichever audio book they would like to read, and have it read, just to them, with no other distractions.
These headphones will provide peace, solace, and most importantly, more fluent readers!
