My students range from ages 3-5 years old and are from low income families. We strive to provide our students with a variety of learning and social opportunities. One of the ways we encourage learning and social development is through sensory play. We want our students to be able to explore and learn about the world around them through using their fingers and hands. My students enjoy exploring and engaging with a variety of materials in our sensory table. They love to see what new items and materials are added each week.
My Project
The peschool sand and water table and the accompanying accessory items -sensory balls, noodles, and beads - will allow for the children to increase their fine motor skills. The touch and feel the different materials will give my students new experiences as they use their fingers and hands to manipulate the materials. These materials allow for the children to increase their cognitive growth as they problem solve and have new experiences as they develop their understanding of the world around them.
They will increase their social and emotional growth as we take turns and share with our friends.
We develop our vocabulary as we use new and descriptive language to describe our new discoveries in the sensory table. We will discuss the why and hows of what is happening through our new discoveries. The way these materials will make a difference in my children's learning is giving them the experiences to create and make new ideas and thoughts about the world around them. They will learn and engage through discover and play as they engage with the sensory materials.
